Dear Elementary School Principals,
Radio City Music Hall, with the cooperation of the Office of the Superintendent ~ Catholic School Support Services, will once again sponsor our annual Christmas essay contest. Note, this year the topic is “My Favorite Christmas Moment.” The contest officially opens on Monday, September 21st. Between October 16th and October 23rd, the first round of judging should take place at your school. The top three essays from your school should arrive at the Office of the Superintendent no later than October 28th, 2015, to be entered into the final round of judging. The winners will be notified on or before November 4th, 2015.
Attached are the Christmas Essay Contest Rules 2015, Contest Coversheet to use when remitting the essays to the Office of the Superintendent and a flyer that contains the PermissionSlip and eligibilty rules. Also attached is the NYS Grade 6-8 Essay Writing Rubric
All entries must be accompanied by a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian in order to be placed into the final round of the competition at the Office of the Superintendent.
You are encouraged to designate someone in your school to coordinate the contest. It is imperative that the rules be followed. Essays that do not follow the rules will not be entered into the final round of judging. Last year, dozens of essays were disqualified before the final round of judging because attention was not given to the margins, font size, length etc. Please note that each essay must contain a title page that includes the theme of the contest, student name, school, school address, homeroom teachers name and student’s grade. Please make sure that all the rules and guidelines are followed – exactly as they are stipulated. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or Cathy Kenny.
The attached Contest Coversheet should be put in an envelope and mailed to the Office of the Superintendent along with the finalist’s essays – the three best from your school. The cover sheet should act as a checklist to make sure that all essays meet the qualifications to be entered into the final round of judging. The cover sheet also provides a space for you to enter the total number of essays that were judged in Round 1 at your school. Please do not forget to record the total number of essays submitted in your school.
