St. Michael’s Soup Kitchen - Serving our Community

Rafaella Aguayo - Grade 8

St. Michael’s Soup Kitchen provides food and clothing for the less fortunate. It is located at 352 42nd Street at Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The mission of their soup kitchen is to provide help to all those in need to the best of their abilities since they believe that there aren't enough people that would lend a helping hand to those in need. The soup kitchen promotes love and dignity to all the people they accommodate, and feel every person should be treated with respect. St. Michael’s Church also wants everyone that arrives there to have a positive experience as well as a safe environment. This way the poor would know that they can come to St. Michael's for help. They ascertain to apportion and spread their profound appreciation for God while accommodating and treating their customers with love and without discrimination.

St. Michael's provides nutritious, home-cooked, and well-balanced food that is an excellent stable meal for their customers' health. They try to balance between fruits and vegetables while making the food. Their schedule usually consists of the group leader starting off work at 9 AM in the chapel where the food is distributed. The group leader has many different stations such as a station for meat or vegetables depending on what's being served that day. Then at 10 AM, the St. Michael’s Soup Kitchen would open its doors, and one by one, the people that came in would receive a tray and be given the choice to pick out whatever they liked from the array of food. As you can see, St. Michaels, following the catholic faith and teachings, serves all people in need in our community, and all their  helping hands bring a big change to people's lives. They treat their clients in a kind and respectful way, and make sure their food is provided with love and care. We are very blessed to have a service like St. Michael’s Soup Kitchen in our community.
