Our Earth

Joey Russo Gr. 7

Our Earth needs to be better taken care of. People do not acknowledge this problem or listen to the effects it can have on us. Some big problems are air pollution, pollution in the ocean, respect in our community, and caring for our elders. These problems are the most common issues and are talked about worldwide. If we take time out of our day, like going outside to clean up garbage, we can all do our part in making a difference to make it better. I’ve helped in park cleanups with my baseball team. If we all pitch in and help we can clean up the Earth.

To prevent ocean pollution, we can recycle, throw out our garbage, and not throw our garbage in the streets. We can have park or beach clean ups to keep our trees and oceans clean.. Due to the amount of garbage being thrown in the ocean many fish and turtles suffer and die. This decreases the population of many ocean animals as well. If we want to keep fish and other sea life safe, then we need to be responsible and understand the effects it can have on us and the world.

Last year I participated in a park cleanup in Whitestone at Little Bay Park with my baseball team. We got together early on a Saturday morning to clean up the park down by the water. It was really gross to see what people leave behind on the floor. We picked up tons of trash and filled up so many bags. It took us hours and we still had so much more that we could have done. We found bottles, potato chip bags, sneakers, plastic bags, straws and so much more junk. This stuff floats into the water down there and can kill the fish. We are doing another park cleanup in March at Little Bay to clean it up more. I look forward to helping keep the park clean with my friends.
