In 2010, the Board of Regents adopted the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics as part of the reform agenda to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.

The Board is seeking feedback regarding how New York should move forward with respect to P-12 science teaching and learning.  A public survey will be used to collect feedback from various stakeholders in science education.  The survey provides an opportunity to evaluate the current New York State science learning standards and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) against a set of specific criteria.  The feedback received on this survey will be used, in part, to formulate a recommendation to the Board.

The survey may be accessed at https://www.research.net/s/NYSEDScienceStandardsSurvey.  It is currently open and will remain open until Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

For more extensive information, including a comparison of the current standards, the next generation science standards and the next generation science standards framework, visit the NYSED website at: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/mst/sci/ngss.html

Please forward this email to all science education stakeholders, as appropriate.

If you have and questions about the standards or the survey, please contact the Curriculum team at emscurric@mail.nysed.gov.
