Ciara FreerDo you know any valiant women in your life? Valiant means possessing or showing courage or determination. However, definitions can be left to interpretation.  A different interpretation of ‘valiant’ means more than that. It means standing up for what you believe in and never backing down. Many women do just that every day. Women in history have made significant strides for equality and have set the example as role models for women everywhere.

Women have fought against injustice to give us the rights we have today. One woman that did that is Susan B. Anthony. She was born on February 15, 1820, in Adams, Massachusetts. At a young age, she was inspired by the Quaker religion, in which they believed that everyone was equal under God. Susan fought against issues such as slavery and protested against the lack of women’s rights. She met Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1851 and together fought for 50 years to try to get an amendment granting women the right to vote. She risked getting arrested at some of her protests and even did get arrested one time. But, Susan didn’t care because she knew this would make significant changes in the long run. In addition to this, she formed the National Woman Suffrage Association to push for an amendment to give women the right to vote. Unfortunately, she died in 1906, just 14 years before the 19 amendments were passed, allowing women to vote. But without her efforts, women would not have a voice in any elections or have any say in their government. Women in the U.S. are thankful for what opportunities she provided based on her relentless efforts.

Women such as Susan B. Anthony set the example as a role model for women today. Role models are based on a person in history who did something admirable. For example, George Washington refused a 3rd term in his presidency. Therefore most presidents after him did that same. Susan B Anthony was a passionate activist that set the example for many female activists that came after her. The two most important qualities that a female role model should have are the ability to be kind to everyone yet still do what is best for them.

An example of this is Collette Freer. She is extremely kind to everyone and does what is best for her family and friends while still making time for herself. She makes minor differences in the lives of people she knows.

Making significant strides in equality and setting the example for female role models everywhere are typical things valiant women in history have done. Women like Susan B. Anthony, who fought against injustice in their lives, set the examples for women to come. Many women follow their predecessors’ standards, making them role models for young women throughout the world. Valiant women have made our world a place where everyone has equal rights through their tireless work.
