From Engageny.org…..

The Text List for P-12 ELA   (http://www.engageny.org/resource/text-list-for-p-12-ela ) contains all the full-length books, articles, excerpts and other texts to be used in the ELA curriculum modules on EngageNY. This document is in Excel format and contains columns that can be easily filtered by Grade, Module/Domain, Title and Author. It also explains, wherever possible, whether a text is a full-length text, an article, or an excerpt of a longer work. In addition, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has included information about where the text can be purchased or located online if the text is in the public domain. Please note that, in several instances, published links to copyrighted texts are provided; these should be used for previewing and planning purposes only, not for reproduction in an instructional context.

While this document will be periodically updated as the modules are completed and posted to reflect the most current information from our curriculum vendors, the information here can help inform purchasing decisions in order to be prepared for the 2013-2014 school year.  In addition, while the list of texts for modules already posted will remain as it is articulated herein, it is possible that the amount of text that is used or the way and time that texts are used may be augmented as curriculum writing continues.

The curricular materials posted on EngageNY.org do and will include authentic reading materials. Authentic reading materials include published works that are typically encountered by students in daily life, such as in magazines, books or newspapers. The use of authentic reading material (as opposed to reading material created for instructional / assessment purposes only) may mean that some material is emotionally charged or may use language outside of a student’s particular cultural experience.

As always, curricular decisions – including the use of the texts in this list – are made at the local level.
