February Edition – Black History Month; Justice

The articles and artwork of each Tablet Jr. are created by the students of the diocesan academies, and each month there is a new theme and a new academy. Justice is the theme of this edition. St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy of Queens is this month’s academy to showcase its journalistic skills. What is Black History Month? Black History Month is when we celebrate African Americans’ victories and the struggles they have overcome during their long history in America. Black History Month is celebrated during February, and many famous African Americans are acknowledged.

The Ruby Bridges Foundation
In 1999, Ruby Bridges created the “Ruby Bridges Foundation” to help end racism in New Orleans.  The foundations’ purpose is to promote respect and equal treatment to all races or all differences. The foundations’ purpose was based  around one movement when Ruby Bridges crossed the barrier of segregation and changed education.

How You can Choose to Change the World like Rose Parks
As an American Activist, Rosa Parks helped change the world.  She was a large part of the civil rights movement. Parks is most known for her involvement in the Montgomery bus boycott.

The Baseball Player Who Made History
What  baseball  player made history in baseball?  This famous baseball player  made   a difference for African-Americans.  The number 42 belongs to Jackie Robinson.   He is the player who broke the color barrier in baseball.
